VISA INFORMATION:

Requirements for Visa

  • The Embassy of India in Rome covers the southern parts of Italy up to Florence, including islands of Sicily and Sardinia.
  • All foreign nationals, including children, require visas to enter India.
  • The Embassy of India in Rome issues Tourist, Entry, Business, Student, and other types of visas to Italian and other foreign nationals residing in Italy on production of certificate of residence.
  • Processing of visa applications from non-Italians, especially those not ordinarily residing in Italy, may take 4/5 working days. Those who are unable to produce the certificate of residence issued by the concerned Comune as proof of long-term residence in Italy (minimum two years), they will have to submit a separate fax form and an additional fax charges of Euro 20.00 for making a reference to the Indian mission in their country of residence. In certain categories, the reference is compulsory, irrespective of the term of residence in Italy.
  • Visitors to restricted/protected areas need special permits and for this purpose an additional form is to be submitted. It can be ascertained from the Embassy of India, Rome whether the places intended to be visited fall in the category of restricted/protected areas.
  • Each visa application is considered on its merit and the Embassy may ask for additional information at any stage during the processing of the application. The fact that an application has been accepted does not guarantee that the visa will be granted.
  • Visa fees are non-refundable even if visa is declined. The Embassy reserves the right of deciding the duration of visa irrespective of the fees tendered at the time of making application.

  • Tourist Visa
Tourists wishing to visit India will be granted Tourist Visas normally for a period up to six months effective from the date of issue with multiple entries. Tourist Visas are non-extendable and non-convertible. Travel agents and people connected with tourism trade who have to visit India frequently, can be granted Tourist Visas for a longer duration.
  • Business Visa
Applicants for Business Visas have to submit two letters, one from the Company in Italy sponsoring them and another from the Company in India inviting them, stating the nature of business to be carried out. Both the letters should specify the period for which the visa is required. Normally Business Visas are granted up to 6 months with multiple entries. In exceptional cases Business Visas up to 5 years may also be granted.
  • Student Visa
Student Visas can be obtained on furnishing proof of admission (original admission letter) to recognised Universities/Institutions in India for a maximum period of 5 years, restricted to the duration of the course, with multiple entries. In some cases clearance from the Government of India is required before grant of visa. Applicants for Student Visa are advised to apply well in advance and contact the Information Wing (tel: 064884642; fax: 064819539; e-mail: [email protected]).
  • Employment Visa
Employment Visa can be obtained on furnishing appointment letter from India and the original "Employement Contract" between the applicant and the employer along with one photocopy. The period of the visa will depend on the validity of the contract limited to a maximum of 5 years.
  • Transit Visa
Transit Visa is granted for the sole purpose of enabling the holder to travel to India to reach his/her ultimate destination. Evidence/air ticket for onward travel to the destination outside India should be produced. Transit Visas are valid for halts up to 3 hours. Double Entry Transit Visas can be granted for stay in transit up to 3 days on each visit.
  • Journalist Visa
Journalist Visas are granted to professional journalists, pressmen, photographers, film-men, representatives of radio and television and similar personnel in the field of information. Such applications may be submitted to the Information Wing (tel: 064884642; fax: 064819539; e-mail: [email protected]).
  • Other types of visas
Foreign nationals of Indian origin, their spouses and children can obtain a 5 year visa, subject to production of documentary evidence such as cancelled Indian passport/surrender certificate of Indian nationality etc. in case of persons of Indian origin and marriage certificate/family certificate in case of their spouses/children. If such an applicant is not a permanent resident of Italy, this will be subject to clearance from the Indian Mission in the country in which the applicant normally resides.
Visa applicants for conferences, yoga/vedic culture studies, research projects, voluntary works, missionary work, mountaineering or other expeditions, have to contact the Embassy for ascertaining the requirements/further details.
